The DfE have advised the School Admissions team that we must follow the correct legal procedures around transferring from Infant to Junior schools. This means that there can no longer be an automatic transfer from an Infant to Junior school. All parents with children on roll in year 2 in all infant or primary schools must be informed of their legal right to apply for a junior school place for September 2018.
To assist parents to understand this process the School Admissions team have produced a booklet which is available to download via www.havering.gov.uk/admissions/juniorbooklet.
Infant Schools – Please inform all parents of children in year 2 to read the booklet. Parents wishing to apply for the linked junior or any other junior school place must apply online via www.eadmissions.org.uk before the deadline of 15 January 2018. Any parents wishing to transfer their child to a primary school instead of a junior school must do so via an ICAF, these applications are processed in line with the usual in year admissions arrangements, applications can be completed online via www.havering.gov.uk/admissions/inyear.
Primary Schools – Please inform all parents of children in year 2 that should they wish to apply for a year 3 place at a junior school in September 2018, they must apply online via www.eadmissions.org.uk before the deadline of 15 January 2018. If they wish to continue at the primary school then they do not need to do anything.
We realise that this may cause frustration and concern amongst parents however the process is legal and the School Admissions team and schools must adhere to the School Admissions Code.
