Parklands Infants School is a Lead School for Schools Direct working in partnership with Essex Teacher Training to provide a full time, one-year primary programme. We are based within the London Borough of Havering and work with a number of other schools within the local area. We offer both Schools Direct Salaried and Schools Direct Non-Salaried (fee paying) places and placements for trainees following the SCITT programme with Essex Teacher Training.
The training provides experience in two different school and two different key stages with training provided within both the school and centrally. Each trainee will be allocated a mentor for both placements and will have termly visits from an external tutor from Essex Teacher Training.
It will also include a professional studies programme, opportunities to meet regularly with other trainees and to observe and work alongside experienced teachers, gradually taking more responsibility for group and class teaching.
Trainees will be assessed by building a portfolio of evidence against the Teachers’ Standards which will include demonstrating progress in class teaching through regular observations, completing written assignments, brief termly self-reviews and short reflective logs. A half-termly assessment report will also be completed by the school.
The entry requirements for the courses are:
A full UK honours degree (or equivalent) at 2:2 or above
GCSE grade C in English and Maths (or equivalent)
GCSE grade C in science (or equivalent) for primary training
Proven experience of working / volunteering with children.
In addition, trainees on the Schools Direct salaried route need a minimum of 3 years work experience.
Trainees must also pass the NCTL’s skills tests in literacy and numeracy before they can be offered a place on any teacher training programme (http://www.education.gov.uk)
Please contact us for further information or to visit the school and discuss the programme in more detail.
We look forward to working together on this exciting journey and to help you fulfil your aspirations.
